The Scriptures:
Matthew 7:15-16 “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are
ravening wolves.16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men
gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree
bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.18 A good tree
cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good
fruit.19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit
is hewn down, and cast into the fire.20 Wherefore by
their fruits ye shall know them.”
Matthew
16:6-12 “Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of
the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.7 And
they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.8 Which
when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye
among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?9 Do
ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand,
and how many baskets ye took up?10 Neither the seven
loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?11 How
is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread,
that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?12 Then
understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of
the doctrine
of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.”
Matthew
24:4-5 “4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take
heed that no man deceive you.5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.”
Matthew
24:11 “11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”
Matthew
24:23-27 ” 23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.24 For
there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they
shall deceive the very elect.25 Behold, I have told you
before.26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold,
he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers;
believe it not.27 For as the lightning cometh out of the
east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of
man be.”
Mark
8:15 “ And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of
the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.”
Mark
13:5-6 “And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:6 For many shall come in my name,
saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.”
Mark
13:22 “For false Christs and false prophets shall
rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.”
Luke
12:1 “In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable
multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say
unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.”
Luke
21:8 “And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth
near: go ye
not therefore after them.”
Acts
20:29-31 “For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.30 Also
of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.31 Therefore watch, and
remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night
and day with tears.”
Romans
16:17-18 “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and
avoid them.18 For they that are such serve not our Lord
Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.”

Corinthians 11:3-4 “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve

Corinthians 11:13-15 “ For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into
the apostles of Christ.14 And no marvel; for Satan
himself is transformed into an angel of
light.15 Therefore
it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as
the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”
Galatians
1:8-10 “8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto
you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.9 As
we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you
than that ye have received, let him be accursed.10 For
do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men,
I should not be the servant of Christ.”
Galatians
2:4-5 “And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who

might bring us into bondage:5 To
whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the

3:1-5 “O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not
obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth,
crucified among you?2 This only would I learn of you,
Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of
faith?3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?4 Have ye suffered so many
things in vain? if it be yet in vain.5 He therefore that
ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by
the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?”

Colossians
2:3-9 “3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and
knowledge.4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.5 For
though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and
beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.6 As
ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:7 Rooted
and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught,
abounding therein with thanksgiving.8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.9 For in him
dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”
Colossians
2:18-23 “ Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those
things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his
fleshly mind,19 And
not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having
nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.20 Wherefore
if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in
the world, are ye subject to ordinances,21 (Touch
not; taste not; handle not;22 Which all are to perish
with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of
men?23 Which
things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.”

Thessalonians 2:3-13 “ Let no man deceive you by
any means: for that day shall not come, except there
come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of
perdition;4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all
that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the
temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.5 Remember
ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?6 And
now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.7 For
the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let,
until he be taken out of the way.8 And then shall that
Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth,
and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:9 Even
him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and
lying wonders,10 And with all deceivableness of
unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received
not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.11 And for this
cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:12 That
they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.13 But we are bound to give thanks alway
to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the
beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and
belief of the truth:”

Timothy 1:3-7 “As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into
Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other
doctrine,4 Neither
give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.5 Now
the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good
conscience, and of faith unfeigned:6 From which some
having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor
whereof they affirm.”

shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to
be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.4 For
every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received
with thanksgiving:5 For it is sanctified by the word of
God and prayer.”

Timothy 6:1-5 “Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own
masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not
blasphemed.2 And they that have believing masters, let
them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service,
because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things
teach and exhort.3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord
Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;4 He
is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and
strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,5 Perverse
disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.”

Timothy 2:14-19 “Of these things put them in

approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing
the word of truth.16 But shun profane and
vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.17 And
their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;18 Who
concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already;
and overthrow the faith of some.19 Nevertheless the
foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that
are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from
iniquity.”

Timothy 4:3-4 “For the time will come when they will not

Titus
1:10-16 “For there are many unruly and vain talkers and
deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:11 Whose mouths must be
stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought
not, for filthy lucre's sake.12 One
of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, the Cretians are alway liars,
evil beasts, slow bellies.13 This witness is true. Wherefore
rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;14 Not
giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.15 Unto the pure all things are
pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even
their mind and conscience is defiled.16 They profess
that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and
disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.”
Titus
3:9-11 “But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.10 A
man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;11 Knowing
that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.”

13:9 “Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing

Peter 2: “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as
there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring
upon themselves swift destruction.2 And many shall
follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the
way of truth shall be evil spoken of.3 And
through covetousness shall they with feigned words
make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their
damnation slumbereth not.4 For if God spared not the
angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains
of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;5 And spared
not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of
righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;6 And
turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an
overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;7 And
delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:8 (For
that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his
righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)9 The
Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the
unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:10 But
chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness,
and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to
speak evil of dignities.11 Whereas angels, which are
greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before
the Lord.12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to
be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not;
and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;13 And
shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to
riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with
their own deceivings while they feast with you;14 Having
eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous
practices; cursed children:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following
the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of
unrighteousness;16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the
dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.17 These
are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the
mist of darkness is reserved for ever.18 For when they speak great swelling words of
vanity,
they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much
wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.19 While
they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for
of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.20 For
if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of
the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and
overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.21 For
it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than,
after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto
them.22 But it is happened unto them according to the
true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was
washed to her wallowing in the mire.”

John 4:1-6 “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether
they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.2 Hereby
know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is
come in the flesh is of God:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is
that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even
now already is it in the world.4 Ye are of God, little
children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he
that is in the world.5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.6 We
are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not
us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.”

John 1:7-11 “For many deceivers are entered into the world,
who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the
flesh. This
is a deceiver and an antichrist.8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we
receive a full reward.9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that
abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.10 If
there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:11 For
he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.”
Jude 1:4 “For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained
to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our
Lord Jesus Christ.”
Jude 1:8-13 “Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the
flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.9 Yet Michael
the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of
Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord
rebuke thee.10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what
they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.11 Woe
unto them! for they have gone in the way of
Cain, and ran greedily
after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.12 These
are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without
fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit
withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;13 Raging
waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is
reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.”
Jude 1:16-19 “These are murmurers, complainers,
walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great
swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.17 But,
beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our
Lord Jesus Christ;18 How that they told you there should
be mockers in the last
time, who should walk after
their own ungodly lusts.19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual,
having not the Spirit.”
Lessons learned from these verses:
1.
We are told to beware. Cautious. Alert.
Watchful. On guard.
2.
We are told that they come in sheep’s clothing. They
disguise themselves as Christians. Look, act, and talk like Christians.
3.
We can spot them by their fruits. Do they produce Adultery,
fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness (unbridled lust and excess), Idolatry,
witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, and revellings? Or do they produce love,
joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness,
and temperance?
4.
We are told to beware of their teachings, which are referred to as
leaven. Else where we are told that a little leaven, leavens the whole
lump. So we have to be vigilant to protect against ALL forms of false
teaching, no matter how seemingly “small or little” it is. By
implication, this means that we MUST know the Scriptures. How else could
we spot the false, unless we knew the real?
5.
Deception is the key. Subtlety and covert, is how deception
works. Flattery and misdirection. We MUST be on guard.
Especially against those claiming to be His. Even going as far as
claiming to be Him (in one form or another). It is not the atheists,
evolutionists, Buddhists, or Mohammedians that are most dangerous. It is
the DECEIVERS who CLAIM to be Christian. BE ON GUARD. ESPECIALLY in
the “church.”
6.
We are told to watch for false prophets. We often
think of prophecy as being words about the future (which it often is), but a
“prophet,” is one who claims to speak for God. One who says “This is what
the Lord has told me…” Anything outside of Scripture then, should be met
with great skepticism and caution.
7.
We are told to beware of those who claim to know where “the
Christ” is.
8.
We are told to beware of those claiming to BE Christ.
9.
We are told to beware of the miraculous. For the will
sometimes have power to do things that seem supernatural.
10. Seduction of the highest order is at
hand! Enough so that it would even
deceive the elect if possible! Seduction
is a subtle leading away from
truth. A clever and almost hypnotic lie
that leads off the path of truth. We
must be aware and diligent!
11. We are told to beware of hypocricy. People who preach one thing, but live
differently.
12. They deceive regarding the 2nd
coming. Saying that it is near! (Date-setters?)
13. We are told that they may come from amongst
us, speaking perverse things and trying to gather disciples to themselves. They want seats of power and respect, and
they “twist” the Scriptures, speaking things that do not line up with sound
Biblical teaching.
14. We are told to avoid them and be aware of
them. Any who cause divisions amongst
us, speaking Scriptural lies. They
desire to serve their own desires.
15. We are told that being around them can cause
corruption in us! They MUST be avoided!
16. They deviate from the simplicity of the
Gospel. They complicate the matter and
speak confusing and misleading things.
Any deviation from Christ, the Gospel, or the Spirit must be avoided!
17. They can appear to be preaches of the
Gospel. They can appear to be ministers
and apostles.
18. We must avoid any other Gospel! And be on alert for messages that seem to
please natural man.
19. They are sneaky! Pretending to be with us to gain a foothold,
and then attempting to bring us under bondage of law-keeping.
20. They are described as bewitching! Spell-casting and hypnotic. Alluring and seductive. And they not only preach salvation by law,
but sanctification by law. Their message
is that of law-keeping.
21. They passionately preach
their “laws” of salvation, excluding many due to their rigorous standards.
22. They use the power of persuasion and
compulsion.
23. They desire to “look the part.” A great focus on outward morality (however they
determine that to be), AND a conformity to society in order to avoid
persecution.
24. They attempt to “steal,” or “cheat” you of your joy with persuasion and cunning
speech.
25. We are to be cautious of those who use a love
of knowledge and empty lies. Who speak
on traditions of men, rather than Scriptures, and speak of earthly wisdom.
26. They cause men to use “will power” to worship
and act humble, rather than seeing a transformation of the heart which causes
the external to naturally follow suit.
They teach to worship angels and become conceited in their own
“wisdom.” Teaching as commandments,
man-made edicts, which have an “appearance” of holiness because of their
“will-powered” humility and sacrifice.
27. They deceive regarding “that day.” The judgment day. The return of Christ.
28. We are to love truth. It is those who do not love truth that are
deceived. Truth MUST be paramount,
rather than loving what pleases us. We
must desire truth above comfort.
29. They teach fables that cause doubt and
questioning rather than building up faith.
The love using multiple words.
30. Some will seduce and lead astray, teaching
demonic heresies like abstinence from marriage and certain foods.
31. Some may not believe and teach submission to
employers and higher powers. Again, fanagaling
over words and teaching monetary prosperity.
32. We are not to argue over words. Rather than having Godly and edifying
conversations, these people argue and bicker over words.
33. Many will not endure sound
doctrine, but instead will seek teachers who will speak things that line up
with their lusts.
34. Again we see that they are not submissive to
authorites and love to do lots of talking.
They seek after monetary gain, teaching fables and man-made
commandments. And their lives (behavior)
expose them for who they really are.
35. We are to stay away from foolish arguments and
bickerings, and to separate from heretics after a second rebuke.
36. We are to avoid numerous and
strange doctrines, sticking with the simplistic fundamentals of the faith.
37. These teachers are very
proud and self-willed. Full of greed and
covetousness. They have no meekness in
them to submit to authority, they love to talk and allure through lusts. Full of sin.
38. We are to be skeptical of
all religious teaching and to test them by the Light of the Holy Scriptures,
which means we NEED to know the Scriptures.
39. They speak things that make
sense from a worldly/fleshly aspect. And
they are received by the world/flesh.
40. True teachers will remain in the doctrines of
Christ (again we need to KNOW the Word).
We are not to keep company with, or to even greet false teachers.
41. These teachers sneak in amongst us and deny
the only Lord God (perhaps ecumenical?).
And they turn grace into a license to sin.
42. They hate authority and
speak evil of it. They have murderous hearts, they are greedy for gain, and
despise authoritative voices.
43. They murmur and complain, while speaking proud
and boastful words. Enlarging
themselves, seeking the approval of men.
They mock and separate themselves (proclaime themselves to be
“special?”).
Conclussion:
The
biggest take away from all these verse is CAUTION! Over and over and over again we are told to
be aware. To be on guard and alert. We must ALWAYS be vigilant and looking for
these deceivers. For they come AS
Christians! They are from within, not
without. They make claims to be one of
us. They focus heavily on outward
appearances, wanting to look like good and moral people. And they take positions of leadership. We MUST BE CAUTIOUS of those who make shows
of piety and stand in the pulpit. We
have to carefully examine their teachings and words. They seem to be rebellious against orthodoxy
and in opposition to what has commonly been accepted in the church. Specifically they seem to attack the Gospel,
or preach some form of legalism. Many
also focus on eschatology (end times teachings), and are money focused. They deceive, manipulate, pull at heart
strings, flatter, etc., and reject sound Biblical teachers.
So,
not only are we to be aware and on guard, but ESPECIALLY with the nicely
dressed, smiling teachers/preachers.
With so many warnings regarding deception and false teaching, we need to
be on HIGH ALERT, ANY time someone stands in the pulpit or attempts to
“teach.” WE MUST know the Scriptures for
ourselves, without outside opinions. We
have to cautiously hear everything and test it diligently by the Light of
Scriptures. It is the self-proclaimed
Christian teachers and pastors that we need to be most cautious of! Not the atheists, the evilutionists, the
mohammadians, or the immoral pagans. It
is the “Christian” teachers!
BEWARE,
BEWARE, BEWARE!!!
